Frank Lyon Passes Away at 74

Frank Lyon Jr. passed away at his home in Little Rock, Arkansas, Sunday at the age of 74. Lyon, along with his wife Jane, began Summer Wind Farm in 1995 in Georgetown, Kentucky. In Summer Wind’s 20 year history, they’ve bred the likes of Indygo Shiner and Mission Impazible and has both bred and purchased toppers in recent years, most notably purchasing Littleprincessemma, the dam of American Pharoah, at last year’s Keeneland November sale, and Aubby K and More Hennesssy, the dam of Hootenanny, at that sale this year. Summer Wind also owned the dams of Horses of the Year Skip Away and Favorite Trick and champion Fleet Indian, as well. The lifelong businessman was involved with several companies, including the Coca-Cola Bottling Co. of Arkansas. Lyon is survived by his wife, and daughters Karen Bailey and Ashley Jackson.
